Ooh Lovely! I get a bit misty-eyed about wrecked work boats! This is, or was, a boat known as a stone barge. These massively built craft were used to transport limestone from major ports such as Plymouth on the South coast of England. You will see that this one is double skinned - which may be one of the reasons why she has lasted so long after being retired. I don’t how long. - a local boatman told me he could remember her lying there for at least 50 years. She is lying in Froe Creek, Cornwall; now owned by the National Trust. And a prettier little creek it would be hard to imagine.

Original - Available from The Waterside Gallery, St Mawes, Cornwall: www.watersidegallery.co.uk where it is on exhibition. If you would like it sent to you - please let me know by clicking here.
