Paps of Jura
The Sunday Times once listed Sunrise over the Paps of Jura as one of its ‘100 things to see before you die’. In this view we are looking North East from the Isle of Islay, toward the Isle of Jura - both of which lie off the west coast of Scotland. A fishing net is drying in the breeze; it is hand-knotted and made from tanned natural fibre, the floats are cork, the weights are balls of lead. Nets aren’t made like this any more, as anyone who has walked along a beach littered with bits of polyester rope abandoned as flotsam by a recent storm knows.
