Mainmast Lower

Mainmast Lower Shroud is the job that this block and tackle (pronounced taykle) is doing. The fall of rope which leaves the picture bottom left will be seized back onto itself once the desired tension has been set up. The part of the stay which leaves at the top of the picture is actually braided rope - this rigging being on a modern vessel - but steel wire which was common would have a similar appearance.

Original - Available from The Waterside Gallery, St. Mawes Cornwall: www.watersidegallery.co.uk where it is on exhibition. If you would like it sent to you - please let me know by clicking here.
